0 Twitter for BlackBerry Updated to 1.1

Blackberry traditionally been the stronghold of the serious business type audience, but with a new direction that Research In Motion (RIM) has taken, which encompasses a wider demographic, the Blackberry platform has become savvier of late. Integrated support for social networking has been a nod in this direction, but even then the Twitter for Blackberry couldn't match up to its Android and iOS counterparts. Good news is that RIM has updated Twitter for Blackberry to version 1.1 now.

Although, it still may not be at the level of the ones on iOS and Android, the update ushers in much needed updates that include push notifications, better integration with the social networking feeds, support for retweets and the much needed ability to access the feeds without having to launch the application. The application is still in the beta stage, so don't expect a bug free experience.

Here is the full list of changes in the update:

- Push notifications for @ mentions
- Direct Messages support, threaded in the style of BBM conversations
- Hash-tag topic auto-complete
- Support for retweets
- Refreshed UI
- New gesture support, including "pull and refresh" updating
- Additional languages, including Polish and Czech

Twitter for Blackberry v1.1 can be downloaded free of charge from Blackberry Beta Zone, and requires Blackberry OS 4.5 or above.
